The Rural Livelihoods Fund was established on August 14, 2013 under the Kidu Foundation of His Majesty the King. The Fund was proposed by a Singaporean couple, Mr. Choon Huat TAN and Mrs. Beng Hwa KHOO, who had witnessed noticeable changes in the rural and urban landscape of Bhutan since their first visit in 2006.

The Fund aims to support sustainable rural livelihood programs to improve the lives of people in the villages, to reduce rural poverty, and to mitigate rural-urban migration in the Kingdom of Bhutan.

In its initial years, the beneficiaries of the Fund will be people living in the poorest villages in Bhutan identified under Royal initiative.
